As a real estate investment trust, investing is at the core of what we do. But the most valuable investments we make are not in our assets—they’re in our people and our community. With more than five decades of experience operating exclusively in the Washington DC area, we’re passionate about making a difference in the region we call home.
Motivated by our guiding principles and committed to improving the lives of those in need, our employees partake in a wide variety of philanthropic activities throughout the year. Whether volunteering at a food bank, running a toy drive, or walking for a cause, we’re proud to foster a culture of giving back.
Community Service Day
Each year, Washington REIT employees come together as a company and spend designated days volunteering in the community. During these community service days, Washington REIT employees have volunteered over the past few years at the Capital Area Food Bank, Martha’s Table, Interfaith Works and the Ronald McDonald House in locations throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
Toys for Tots
Each year, Washington REIT employees participate in a holiday toy drive through Toys for Tots. All collected toys are donated to Toys for Tots as well Inova Children’s Hospital.
Walk for Wishes
Walk For Wishes DC is an event sponsored by the Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic chapter. Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic's mission is to grant once in a lifetime experiences (wishes) for children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. In the DC area, there are over 600 children waiting for their wish to be granted. Washington REIT's team has won the top team award for the largest donation for three years in a row.
Camp Fantastic is a one-week adventure for 7-17 year olds who have received cancer-specific treatment within the past three years. Camp Fantastic provides young cancer patients with an opportunity to step back from the seriousness of their disease and enjoy normal childhood activities and the bonds of friendship with other children who share similar experiences. Camp Fantastic provides classes, recreation, themed adventures, campfires, and other exciting activities and a full staff of medical caregivers make it possible for children to attend in virtually any stage of treatment. In 2016, Washington REIT raised over $2,800 to fund personalized gift bags for each of the 110 campers.
