To stay up to date on industry best practices for energy management, WashREIT is actively involved with the Department of Energy’s Better Buildings program. Through our participation with Better Buildings, we receive guidance on implementing efficiency projects, identify and pilot innovative technologies, and track our progress towards goals.

WashREIT has been a Better Buildings Alliance Partner for several years and leads industry engagement as the Chair of the program’s Commercial Real Estate Steering Committee. We also take advantage of the program to publicly validate annual progress on achieving our energy reduction goals.

Through the Better Buildings Challenge, we’ve established a goal to reduce energy use intensity 20% by 2025 from a 2015 baseline and our progress is reported publicly. To contribute to the sharing of best practices, we publish case studies and implementation models of successful projects, such as our recent Active Peak Load Management Program which included the deployment of energy intelligence software that resulted in curtailment of 770 kW of peak load and $30,000 in annual utility savings.
